At our Supported Living housing schemes, we aim to treat each resident as an individual, supported by an on-site manager. By understanding our residents’ needs, preserving dignity and respecting independence, we help to create a real sense of home, without the worry of household and ground maintenance.

How does BCOP allocate available properties?

As a social landlord, we allocate housing according to need.  Not everyone over 60 is eligible.  Our Supported Living Schemes are registered with Birmingham City Council as ‘exempt accommodation’ in terms of Housing Benefit, meaning that we provide our tenants with a higher level of support and supervision than if they were living independently.  As a result, tenants at our Supported Living Schemes must qualify for enhanced housing benefit; for them to receive this, we have to provide evidence to the Council of the regular assistance each tenant receives from the Scheme Manager or Tenant Support Officer.

Need is assessed using the information you provide in your application form, according to your medical, social and housing circumstances.  If you are eligible but we have no properties available, you will be placed on our waiting list.  Your position on the waiting list is determined by the needs assessment, not your application date.
