Easy to read safety advice

At BCOP we want to make sure all our tenants are safe. We have produced easy to read safety advice leaflets that explain common risks and the simple steps you can take to stay safe at home. Use the links and summaries below to download each leaflet.

Tenant damp and condensation advice leaflet

Summary Practical ways to reduce moisture and improve ventilation to prevent condensation and mould. Everyday tips cover cooking and bathing, drying clothes, using trickle vents and extractor fans, heating rooms evenly and reporting leaks or persistent damp.

Tenant fire safety advice leaflet

Summary Guidance on preventing fires and what to do if the alarm sounds. It explains stay put or leave procedures for flats, safe cooking and smoking, safe use of heaters and chargers, night time checks and why fire doors must be kept closed and well maintained.

Tenant electrical safety advice leaflet

Summary How to use sockets and appliances safely and when to report problems. It covers avoiding overloaded adaptors, checking for scorch marks or hot plugs, switching off when not in use, charging only when awake and contacting BCOP if sockets feel hot or are sparking.

Tenant water hygiene safety advice leaflet

Summary How to reduce the risk of Legionella. It includes keeping hot water hot and cold water cold, flushing little used taps and showers, cleaning and descaling shower heads, and reporting changes to water temperature, colour, taste or smell.

Tenant asbestos safety advice leaflet

Summary Information about asbestos in older buildings and how to stay safe. Materials are safe if in good condition and left undisturbed. The leaflet explains common locations, what BCOP does to manage asbestos and the do and do not actions for tenants.
