A warm welcome awaits at Anita Stone Court

27 October, 2026

First impressions matter, particularly when you're welcoming someone into their home. At Anita Stone Court, our shared building for a nursing home and sheltered housing scheme in Moseley, a recent makeover has transformed the entrance foyer into a beautiful, calm and welcoming space for residents, families and visitors.

Completed in early October, the redecoration was inspired by a simple idea: to make the reception area feel less like the entrance to a care home and more like stepping into someone's home.

Choosing the colours together

Carla Smith, general manager at the nursing home wanted to create a warmer, more homely atmosphere and felt that choosing the right colour would make a real difference.

Rather than making the decision alone, Carla selected four possible paint colours and arranged for sample strips to be painted directly onto the walls. Residents and their families were then invited to look at the different shades and share their preferences.

The final choice was a beautiful, warm teal green, which has brought a sense of calm and comfort to the entrance area. The soft, muted colour creates a peaceful atmosphere, while giving the foyer a fresh, elegant appearance. The same theme has been carried through into Annie's Bistro, which is next to the entrance and a favourite meeting place on the site.

Involving residents and families in decisions like this is important to us. After all, Anita Stone Court is their home, and their opinions should help shape the environment in which they live and spend time together.

A thoughtful finishing touch

As part of the makeover, two beautifully framed pieces of prose have been added to the foyer. Their messages reflect the kindness, compassion and personal connections that are so important in caring for older people, particularly those living with dementia.

One includes the moving words:

"They may forget what you said, they may forget what you did, but they will never forget how you made them feel."

It continues with a reminder that even when memories fade, kindness, comfort and love can still be felt.

The second piece offers another gentle message:

"Sometimes we cannot change someone's journey, but we can make sure they never walk it alone."

Both are simple but powerful reminders of the importance of being there for one another, offering reassurance, understanding and companionship.

The frames complement the new colour scheme beautifully, adding a personal and meaningful finishing touch to the redecorated space.

Making our home feel like home

At BCOP, we believe that the environment in which people live is an important part of their wellbeing. Comfortable, attractive surroundings can help residents feel relaxed and at home, while also making visits more enjoyable for their families and friends.

The transformation of an entrance foyer may seem like a relatively small change, but it has made a wonderful difference to the appearance and atmosphere of the home.

With its calming colours, thoughtful decorative touches and more welcoming feel, the newly decorated entrance offers a lovely first impression to everyone who walks through the door. We'd like to say a big thank you to our maintenance team for all their hard work in making this possible.

And, most importantly, it reflects something we believe strongly at BCOP – little things matter.
