Residents, relatives, staff and visitors at Anita Stone Court enjoyed a delicious afternoon of homemade cakes on Thursday 25th June, as the home's Bake Off cake sale raised funds for BCOP's 80th anniversary appeal.
The event formed part of the charity's year-long celebrations to mark 80 years of supporting older people across Birmingham, with every slice sold helping to bring BCOP closer to its goal of creating two new dementia-friendly sensory streets at Anita Stone Court and Neville Williams House.
In the days leading up to the event, residents rolled up their sleeves alongside the activities team to bake a selection of homemade treats. From mixing ingredients to decorating cakes, everyone enjoyed getting involved and contributing to the special fundraiser.
The finished cakes joined a tempting display of bakes donated for the sale, with staff, families and visitors all supporting the event by purchasing sweet treats while raising money for a worthwhile cause.
New Activities Lead, Tomi, said: "I was so pleased that the cakes we made went into the sale. The residents and I made a vanilla cake and thankfully it turned out really well. Everyone who tried it seemed to enjoy it, and I got some lovely compliments, which was so encouraging. It was such a fun event to be part of."
The sensory streets planned for Anita Stone Court and Neville Williams House will recreate familiar places from years gone by, helping residents—particularly those living with dementia—to reconnect with treasured memories through meaningful activities and reminiscence. The immersive environments will include features such as traditional tea rooms, sweet shop, florist and schoolhouse, creating welcoming spaces where residents can spend time with family and friends.
Every fundraising event brings the appeal one step closer to making these exciting new facilities a reality.
A huge thank you goes to everyone who baked, donated, bought cakes or helped organise the Bake Off. Your generosity and support are helping us build memories for the future as we celebrate 80 years of care. You can donate to our appeal on our JustGiving page here.
