At BCOP we’re always careful to follow best practice in infection control, so we were very happy to receive a donation of sanitising screen wipes from Paul Fairhurst, MD at Protectology.
These products were developed for hospital use and offer protection from spreading germs present on mobile phones and Nourish handset touchscreens for 10 days. The clever wipes leave a nanolayer of liquid glass, which is 500 times thinner than a human hair, on the mobile phone screen, which protects against many threats to our health including coronavirus, norovirus and flu. The medical grade sanitiser is very cleverly blended into the liquid glass layer in such a way that the sanitiser slowly releases, all the time, killing fresh germs as they land – even through the night while you sleep.
Most people don’t realise that their mobile touchscreens can harbour so many germs – a study in 2017 showed that our mobile phones can be ten times as dirty as a toilet seat! Other studies found that they can be home to some serious pathogens, germs and bacteria including Streptococcus, MRSA, and coronavirus.
A simple weekly wipe is all our care home staff need to keep their phone screens clear of harmful pathogens. Once dry, this active layer will continue to kill the pathogens which are deposited on the surface of your mobile when you touch it, and will also make your screen easier to clean between applications.
