Robert Harvey House

Dignity, comfort and companionship
Highest standards of care for older people

Set in a peaceful corner of Birmingham, Robert Harvey House offers nursing and dementia care in a home designed to stimulate the senses, ease anxiety and support individual wellbeing.

Robert Harvey House has a unique character that blends high-quality care with thoughtful design, creativity and a genuine sense of community. From our sensory street and vintage railway waiting room reminiscence areas everything here is shaped around the people who live with us.

Our 46 ensuite bedrooms offer space, privacy and the comforts of home, each including a level-access shower, electric profiling bed, small fridge, television and telephone points, and a user-friendly nurse call system. Some rooms can be adapted for couples to live together.

Residents are welcome to personalise their rooms with favourite belongings. We’ve created relaxing communal spaces including a lounge, garden, hair salon and ‘The Library’ featuring leather chesterfields and oak-panelled surroundings.

A standout feature is our ‘Sensory Street’ – a collection of replica vintage shops, including a post office, butcher’s shop and tearoom, designed to support reminiscence and long-term memory recall.

Here, we support residents to enjoy meaningful moments every day in a place they feel safe, respected and truly at home.

Personalised care with respect, choice and compassion

We believe every resident deserves to live a full and purposeful life, supported with dignity and kindness. Residents are at the heart of every decision we make. We tailor our support around individual wishes, encourage independence, and foster a vibrant atmosphere filled with stimulating activities, friendship and warmth.

Nursing care

Round-the-clock nursing care with heart

Each resident is assigned a dedicated keyworker to support their wellbeing and comfort. Our care team is made up of skilled, qualified professionals who work closely with local GPs and visiting specialists including opticians, dentists, chiropodists and physiotherapists.

We provide every resident with a personalised care plan, tailored to their specific needs and preferences. Our aim is to become an extended family to those we care for, offering continuity, trust and emotional connection.

Keeping active and engaged

Activities that uplift and bring joy

Our Activity Team delivers a diverse daily programme including:

  • Reminiscence sessions and memory-based activities
  • Gentle exercise and movement
  • Music therapy and arts and crafts
  • Gardening, cake decorating and film screenings
  • Trips to local places of interest

We support residents in continuing their personal hobbies and encourage participation in new ones. Animal-assisted activities are an integral part of life here – residents enjoy time with our gentle-natured animals including a whippet, colourful macaws, goats and guinea pigs. Many also help care for the animals, creating bird feeders or making patchwork quilts for the pets.

Meals and nutrition

Delicious, nutritious meals prepared daily
Our experienced catering team prepares fresh, home-cooked meals every day, with choices to suit a range of medical, religious and cultural dietary needs. Snacks and drinks are available throughout the day. Residents can choose to eat in their room, in one of our dining areas or in a lounge setting. Visitors are welcome to join their loved ones for meals for a small additional charge.

Visitors and family

You are always welcome
We operate an open-door policy for families and friends, including young children who are often delighted by our animals. There are comfortable lounges, refreshments available, and beautiful gardens to enjoy during your visit. We can also provide space and support for family celebrations, such as birthdays or anniversaries. We aim to become part of your extended family, offering reassurance and regular updates.

Sensory spaces

Comfort, familiarity and calm

Robert Harvey House features a range of sensory spaces especially beneficial for residents living with dementia:

  • A peaceful sensory garden with water features, aromatic planting and accessible paths
  • A sensory room indoors, ideal for quiet reflection or soothing 1:1 time
  • An outdoor 1950s-style sensory street, with nostalgic shopfronts and a tea room
  • Gentle lighting and a calm layout designed to reduce anxiety
  • A portable dementia large screen tablet for stimulating individual or group activities

Staff use silent pagers instead of bells  which help to maintain a tranquil environment throughout the home.
