Exceptional care, kindness and dignity: a family’s thank you to Robert Harvey House

6 January, 2026

At Robert Harvey House, we are often privileged to walk alongside families during some of the most challenging and tender moments of later life. The following testimonial, shared by Janet on behalf of her family, reflects their experience of the compassionate care given to her parents, Maura and Tony. We are profoundly grateful to the family for allowing us to share their words, which speak so powerfully about dignity, kindness, and the small human moments that matter most.

Dear Anthea and all the team at Robert Harvey House,

We would like to express our deepest gratitude to everyone at Robert Harvey House for the exceptional care and kindness shown to our parents, Maura and Tony, during their time with you.

When Mum entered Robert Harvey last August, she was suffering from advanced Alzheimer's and was bedridden, needing constant personal care and feeding. Though she could not speak, her smile told us she was content. The staff went above and beyond for her - washing her hair, cutting her nails, bringing the giant iPad so she could listen to Val Doonican, even bringing the Guinea pig to her bedside so she could stroke it. On her birthday, you managed to get her up and downstairs to the conservatory for a family party, a gift we will never forget. At the end of her life, you treated her with the utmost respect, even ensuring a priest was called so she could receive the sacrament of the sick.

After Mum's passing, you continued to show great thoughtfulness, looking after Dad and respecting his grief. The nurses were vigilant as his health declined, and the carers gently encouraged him to eat, to take part in activities, whilst also honouring his wish to rest when he chose. Robert Harvey truly became his home, and it was his clear wish to remain to remain there until the end. Though he wasn't always patient, he enjoyed the garden, feeding the goats, noticing the changing plants and flowers, sharing jokes, and the companionship of residents and staff.

In his final weeks, you made every effort to keep him safe and comfortable, and at the end, you ensured we could be with him for his last moments. We cannot put into words what that meant to us as a family.

We will always be profoundly grateful for the love, commitment, and respect you gave to both Mum and Dad, and for the kindness and support you extended to us as a family.

God bless you all.

With love and thanks,

Signed by Janet on behalf of six family members.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to Janet and her family for trusting us with their parents’ care and for sharing such a meaningful reflection on their time at Robert Harvey House.
