Robert Harvey House has been named the Palliative Residential Care Provider of the Year 2026, recognising its compassionate, person-centred approach to end of life care.
The award recognises residential care providers that make a real difference to the comfort, wellbeing and dignity of people approaching the end of life. It celebrates organisations that provide high-quality, person-centred care, invest in their staff, work closely with hospices and healthcare partners, and create a culture where every individual receives compassionate support.
Robert Harvey House was shortlisted from entries across the UK before Nursing Home Manager Anthea Reid and Care Manager Mesha Watson presented the home's approach to palliative care to the independent judging panel.
The judges praised Robert Harvey House, saying: "An extraordinary total-team culture and unmatched staff retention set this service apart. They excel with specialist Namaste touch care, sensory passports, and proactive multicultural community connections. This whole-team commitment safely protects the diverse spiritual and sensory needs of residents during their final moments in care."
At Robert Harvey House, end of life care is about much more than clinical support. The home provides a true "home for life", enabling residents to remain in familiar surroundings with the people they know and trust as their care needs change.
Working closely with GPs, district nurses, hospices and specialist palliative care professionals, the team provides seamless care that supports not only residents but also their families through one of life's most difficult times.
The home has also introduced specialist Namaste Care and personalised sensory passports, helping residents living with advanced dementia experience comfort, meaningful connection and dignity during the final stages of life.
One of the reasons Robert Harvey House stood out to the judges was its whole-team approach to care.
Palliative care is not seen as the responsibility of nurses and carers alone. Housekeeping, catering, maintenance, activities and administration teams all play an important role in creating a calm, welcoming environment where residents and their families feel cared for and supported.

Nursing home manager Anthea Reid said: "This award belongs to our whole team. They are all stars. Every member of staff plays a part in helping residents live with dignity, comfort and compassion, and I'm delighted that our teamwork and commitment have been recognised nationally."
BCOP has been supporting older people across Birmingham since 1946. As a charity, every surplus is reinvested into improving services, facilities and care for older people.
